There are a number of requirements that have to be met in order for someone to qualify for ECO4 funding. The ECO4 scheme aims to provide free upgrades to a home’s insulation or heating, making them more energy efficient and saving them money on their energy bills, helping to reduce the risk of fuel poverty. This post outlines ECO4 eligibility, to help you to understand if you’re likely to qualify for it.
1. Benefits
The ECO4 scheme is primarily aimed at households that receive benefits, and therefore more likely to need additional support. Benefits that qualify a household for ECO4 funding include job seekers allowance, universal credit, housing benefit, child tax credit, pension credit and income support.
2. Low income without benefits
It is also possible to qualify for ECO4 if you do not receive benefits using the LA Flex scheme. This is available to households who have a household income of £31,000 or lower. This helps to prevent those at risk of falling into fuel poverty even if they don’t qualify for benefits.
3. Low EPC rating
Having a home with a low EPC rating is another way you can potentially be eligible for ECO4. EPC stands for energy performance certificate and measures how energy efficient a home is, with A being the highest and G being the lowest. A home with an EPC rating of D or lower qualifies for certain upgrades, but these options are more limited when compared to those who receive ECO4 funding.
4. Property ownership
You have to own the property that is being upgraded in order to qualify for the ECO4 scheme. In some cases, you may receive support if you get the permission of your landlord as a tenant.
